Code of Conduct

General Discipline

The following rules govern the major areas which the school considers of central importance. No list of rules can cover every possible occurrence, but the school operates on the philosophy that students are expected to behave in a manner which is courteous and which reflects honorably upon themselves and upon the school.

Every student will endeavour to keep up the high standards of the school. Parents and guardians who send their children to school must understand that by doing so they agree to delegate to school authorities the control which they are entitled to exercise over their children in all matters connected with the school and that in all questions of promotion and school discipline, both inside and outside the school, the decision of the school authorities is final.

  1. Attendance. The student must attend school daily and arrive punctually. Irregular attendance, unjustified or unexplained absence for more than seven class days, habitual idleness, disobedience, objectionable moral influence, frequent failure to obtain ‘good’ in conduct, will justify dismissal.
    •
  2. Conduct. Students are responsible to the school authorities for their conduct both in and outside the school. They will observe the following:
    • Attend all classes as scheduled.
    • Show respect for all school personnel and classmates.
    • Respect the privacy and dignity of each student. Physical bullying is corrupting and merits severe action. Individuals who are vindictive in speech or in deed; will be answerable for their behavior. The privacy of individuals also extends to their possessions. Theft or casual “borrowing” are dishonest practices which undermine the community.
    • Not be disruptive or argumentative in class.
    • Running, playing or shouting in the academic block is not allowed.
    • When students move along the corridor, as when changing classes, they must walk in silence. They should always keep to the left except when several classes are going down the stairs together.
    • They will not engage in any fight in school or within the school zone.
    • Students are expected to be clean and tidy, orderly and respectful both in classes and in public. Rude, disorderly or other objectionable conduct in or out of the school will be severely dealt with.

  3. Turnout & Dress code. Students must ensure:
    • Wearing the school uniform.
    • Maintain personal cleanliness and hygiene. Shabby, unkempt hair is not permitted.
    • Boys are not allowed to wear earrings or any other form of jewelry.
    • Shirts and blouses are neatly worn at all times.

  4. Care for School property and premises. All students are expected to:
    • Take due care of school property. Any damage caused to equipment or to buildings should be reported immediately to the school staff and will have to be made good.
    • Be careful not to litter the school campus. They should use the waste paper baskets and litter bins.
    • Utilise the school locker provided for storage of books and not for any inappropriate items. No books (other than text or library books), may be brought to the school.

  5. Food court. All students are invited to use the Food court and are requested to be considerate of their fellow students by returning their trash to the designated trash bins. No food or beverage is to be taken out of Food court or eaten in any other part of the building.
    •
  6. Use of Cellular Phones. Students are not to use cell phones, walkman or any item that is likely to cause a distraction in the class.
    •
  7. Loss of Items. The school is not responsible for any books, money or other articles that are lost by a student. The students must look after their own things. It is advisable not to bring large sums of money or valuable articles to school.
    •
  8. Use of English. All are expected to speak in English while in school.

Guidelines for Parents.

  1. Parents/Guardians are expected to cooperate with the school authorities by enforcing regularity and discipline. They are requested to attend the Parents Open House Day which is held twice during each term. Parents can meet the teachers, Supervisor, and the Principal regarding the progress of their children. Dates for Open House are given in the school calendar.

  2. Parents/Guardians are informed that occasional reports from the teacher are conveniently sent through the diary. Monthly reports about conduct and application will be issued at the request of the parents or guardians.

  3. Parents and guardians are particularly expected to sign the progress report or any similar document when so requested.

Safety Rules

The school operates as a community which seeks to safeguard the rights of the individual. Each member of the community should have the chance to grow in knowledge and in self-confidence, encouraged by pupils and staff alike. However, rights also entail responsibilities to others and to conduct themselves with self-discipline.

  1. The safety of pupils and staff is vital. Each member of the school is required to observe safety rules. Regulations governing fire precautions, laboratory procedures and road safety especially must be strictly obeyed.

  2. Smoking is not permitted and will be actively discouraged. The school is a ‘no smoking zone’.

  3. The consumption of alcohol is not permitted.

  4. The supplying or use of drugs, solvents or banned substances is strictly forbidden.

  5. The possession of knives, guns, air guns, catapults or other weapons is forbidden.

  6. The possession of any type of firework is forbidden.

  7. The use of motor vehicles on and around the school campus, for reasons of safety, is strictly controlled. No pupil may drive a motor vehicle to or from school unless prior permission has been requested by a parent or guardian and obtained in writing from the Principal. Similarly, no student may ride as a passenger in a vehicle driven by a student, unless written permission has been obtained.

  8. Buying food or any other item from vendors outside the school is forbidden.

These rules will be applied at all times when a student is in school or is under the school’s responsibility. Hence, excursions, sport fixtures, group trips, etc. do not signify that school rules cease to apply. When students are with parents or friends outside school time, parents must clearly set their own limits as they see fit. It is hoped, however, that students will seek to conduct themselves with dignity at ALL times.
